Graduate School Fellowships

A list of fellowships available for graduate students at the University of Utah. 


Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships are federally funded awards offered through the University of Utah's Middle East Studies Program. They provide funding for undergraduate and graduate students who study modern foreign languages and related area studies.


Steffensen Cannon Scholarship

For graduate students in the Colleges of Education and Humanities as well as for direct descendants of Ellen Christina Steffensen Cannon. Award includes tuition for graduate students only; renewable one year. 12 to 15 awards given annually.


Excellence through Diversity Fellowship

The Excellence Through Diversity Fellowship (ETDF) is designed to help support and recruit historically underrepresented graduate students to the University of Utah. The ETDF offers financial support to promising underrepresented graduate students who have been admitted to a graduate program and will begin their studies in the next academic year.

National Scholarships

Fulbright

Sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Program provides funding for students, scholars, teachers, and professionals to undertake graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools.


Rangel International Affairs Program

The Rangel Program is a collaborative effort between Howard University and the U.S. State Department that seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers as diplomats in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. 


Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship

The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Programs provide funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply.


Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program

Open to US citizens or permanent residents who at the time of application have not yet completed their first year of graduate study or will be entering graduate school for the first time in the next academic year. 


Social Science Research Council (SSRC) Research Fellowship

International Dissertation Field Research Fellowships: Open to full-time graduate students in the humanities and social sciences, regardless of citizenship, who have completed all PhD requirements except for field work by the time the fellowship begins. Fellowships, usually nine months, must be held for a single continuous period.
